Welcome Charisma, it’s nice to have you here. What is your Sizzling Release?
The Beast Within

What is The Beast Within all about?
Beautiful and promiscuous Diana Carrington prowls the club scene with her female posse in search of male companionship. Physically drawn to debonair vampire Julian Grey, Diana ultimately falls for him.

Their sexual attraction to one another blossoms into a full blown relationship, but Diana suddenly realizes she’s in over her head with the vampire who harbors a dark secret, and a demon that ultimately may lead to her demise.

What was your inspiration?
The vampire genre. I know as authors/readers, we wonder what it would be like if vampires truly existed. As a woman, what would you do if you suddenly crossed paths with a vampire? Would you accept it because you’ve always thought they existed? Or, would you accept it, but subconsciously deny he was real. Would you freak out, once learning he was a vampire?

Would you graciously turn yourself over to a vampire lover, body and soul, without a care in the world, not caring of the outcome at a later date, until it was a little too late. I would imagine that being with a vampire would be an addiction. Imagine that strong adrenaline rush one would experience with each visit from their vampire lover.

My Diana does, but gets a little more than she bargained for as readers will soon discover. This is a two part series.

Why paranormal? What’s the draw?
I love anything having to do with the paranormal genre and have always been involved in interracial relationships, so basically, I’m writing from my point of view.

Tell me, what was your reaction when you received your very first contract to be published?
My first contract was Her Dark Desires. I did a little happy dance all over the place; seriously, my girls thought I was nuts.

How did you celebrate?
My daughters and I celebrated at The Olive Garden that Saturday, then we went shopping at Burlington.

Now for some fun stuff! February is just a couple of days away and it known as the month for lovers. What do and your SO have planned for Valentine’s Day?
My SO and I are planning to go to the Poconos.

Seriously, do you think chocolates and flowers are the way to a woman’s heart?
No, they are a way to her thighs. ; ) Seriously, flowers and chocolates are cliché to me. A nice dinner and a gift would do, something totally unexpected and out of the ordinary.

What would be your ultimate Valentine’s Day?
The ultimate would be getting whisked away to a castle somewhere in Europe with my SO. We would tour as much of Europe as we possibly could and play lord and lady of the castle. ; )

Milk chocolate or dark?

Thank you so much for joining me! Any last moment comments you’d like to add?
I would love to hear what readers want in a story. I have several WIPs involving werewolf/vampire ménages. I’m also striving to write something out of the ordinary, and I'm open for suggestions.

I have thirty story ideas, but many I’ve had to put on the back burner. I have even thought about something along the lines of sci-fi, and zombie related.   ;)

Charisma has been gracious enough to give two excerpts from The Beast Within. One she calls "tame" and the other is definitely not tame! Enjoy!

Tame unedited excerpt:

It was early when Julian lightly stroked Diana's cheek. Lying on their sides, they were still entwined with each other. His keen eyes absorbed every inch of her body not covered by the sheet.
"Julian, what time is it?" Diana asked upon waking. "I've got to go to work."

"Honey, its six o'clock in the morning," Julian said, turning slightly, peering at the clock behind him on the nightstand.

"I hate Mondays," Diana groaned, snuggling close to her lover as the rain pounding caught her attention, ruthlessly beating against her bedroom window. "Fuck. It's raining out too."

"Call in," Julian suggested. "Spend the day with me. I'll cook breakfast for you, let me treat you like a queen. At least you have food here in the house."

"Awww, you're too sweet, Jules," Diana chuckled."I could lay here forever, with you."

"So, you'll call in?" Julian asked, kissing her on top of her head.

"Yes, I will call my boss and let her know. It's rare when I play hooky. I deserve it. I need coffee, Julian," Diana said. Stretching, she realized she wanted nothing more than to spend the day getting to know her lover. She had so many questions for him. She looked at him in awe as the vampire rose from the
bed, heading out into the kitchen. Oh, what an ass he had on him. Firm and muscular. Every muscle flexed in his body when he moved. Slowly he slid into his faded blue jeans, winking at her as she watched him exit the bedroom. Also, surprise gripped her as she realized he was going to make coffee and cook
breakfast. "Julian, coffee will do for now. I'm not really hungry at the moment," Diana called after him. Grabbing the remote from the nightstand, she flicked on the television, wondering if the vampire even knew how to operate the coffee machine.

"Then coffee it is," Julian replied from the kitchen. "And yes, my darling Diana, I know how to make coffee," he added.

Feeling slightly embarrassed, and then a little ticked off for him invading her thoughts, Diana hauled herself out of bed, and grabbed her robe from the chair next to her walk-in closet. Slowly, she strolled into the kitchen, staring in amazement as Julian flicked on the switch to the coffeemaker. Usually, she was the one making coffee in the morning at least that was the way things went in her last relationship..

"Do you have a habit of reading another person's thoughts?" Diana asked as her eyes roamed over Julian's body. Her nipples tingled at the discovery of his half-hardened cock through his jeans when he turned to face her.

"Yes I do," Julian replied, turning to face her. "My apologies to you, love, but it is something I've been doing for centuries," the vampire said. "I can work on this. I see you aren't too happy."

"I would appreciate it. I like to keep my thoughts private," she giggled.

"No worries, Diana," Julian said, walking over to her, wrapping her in his arms, pulling her close to him. "We have a lot of catching up to do," Julian suggested. "I want us to take this time and enjoy this day, so if there is anything you want to ask, please feel free to do so.."

"Were you reading my mind again, Julian?"

"No, Diana, that was basic common sense." He laughed. "Naturally, since we have the time, I know you have many questions for me."

"Hell yeah, I do."

When the coffee finished brewing, the couple sat at the dining room table in the living room. Diana was like a child, curious to know from where Julian hailed, what he did…

"I was a knight for King Richard the Lionhearted. I was sired when I returned from the Crusades," Julian continued.

"Who sired you, a male or female vampire?" Diana asked, taking a sip of her coffee.

"A female named Judith," Julian responded.

"What ever happened to her?" Diana asked, experiencing a slight pang of jealousy.

"I'm not sure what became of her. She stayed with me for a month or so, teaching me how to avoid humans who actually hunted vampires. She often said how discretion was the key to survival," Julian said, reminiscing about his transition from human to vampire, barely remembering his sire's face.

"She taught you how to hunt?" Diana asked.

"Yes, she enjoyed hunting and killing," Julian explained, as his mind drifted off to occurrences he barely remembered. "I refused to feed at first, but realized I needed to, or I would cease to exist. I learned that lesson the hard way. She was a very bitter person. She had been a vampire two hundred years before our paths crossed," Julian said. "Each time I hunted, deep inside I knew it wasn't right. I realized after a few kills that it wasn't necessary, something she never told me. Vampires can sustain themselves without taking
lives," Julian explained. "She was very good at deception. I was so angry when I found out it wasn't necessary to kill, however, by then, I enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and the kill. It took me centuries to curb my bloodlust. It's an addiction, Diana," Julian warned, remembering how he once tore into human throats, and savored the sweet taste of flesh and blood. The very thought caused the saliva in his mouth to increase.

"Wow, Julian. So you never let that urge drive you to madness?" Diana asked.

"If a vampire exercises enough control, then yes. Once you become a vampire, when your body dies and the transformation is complete, there are raw emotions to deal with. Imagine sadness, happiness, anger, and the need to feed combined into one huge emotion. And when you start hearing thoughts from people
coming from every direction, it drives you fucking insane," Julian said, half smiling. "Everything little thing is magnetized, like High Definition. All your senses become magnetized, hearing, vision, everything. Sex, is out of this fucking world," Julian said, biting his lip as he caressed Diana's chin. "It becomes an addiction," he whispered, peering into Diana's eyes.

Giggling, Diana grabbed his hand, holding it to her face. She enjoyed talking to the amazing creature, and learning about different times, and places. It was like talking to a living history book. As he promised, Julian cooked eggs, bacon, and toast for his woman. He even brewed a second pot of coffee.

"So, no coffin?" Diana asked.

"No, that's actually the choice of some vampires. We can move about freely during daylight hours, as long as direct sunlight doesn't seep into our dwellings. If you noticed, all my curtains are black. For the most paranoid of vampires there is a certain type of glass that has a chemical within to reject
the sun's rays. I forget the name of that. There are underground vampire covens, that started creating and marketing the glass to other covens. You'd be amazed, Diana." Julian laughed.

"What happens if you were to go out in sunlight?"

"I would become deathly ill, and eventually die, depending upon how long I was out in the sun. It also depends upon our origins and how long we've existed. Ancient vampires can endure sun for the most of the day, but even then, they would need to rejuvenate themselves. It is very important for a vampire to sleep and gather his or her energy, especially if they've been in the sun for whatever reason," Julian said, taking another sip of his coffee.

"Wow. I didn't know all that. What of the underground vampire covens?" Diana asked, feeling like she was caught in some awesome void derived from a book or movie.

"Yes, we must remain secret, so we blend into society," Julian said, sipping his coffee. "What's wrong, Diana?" Julian asked, concern coming over him at the funny look on his lover's face.

"My brother Damian, is a cop out in Los Angeles. He was telling me about strange happenings and seemed overly concerned about me. He warned me not to go to clubs alone. There have been many homicides out there and here," Diana said with concern. "Would you happen to know anything about that?"

"Some vampires are rogue. They hunt and kill without remorse, not caring if humans find out about us. There are covens that will terminate rogue vampires when they discover them. We are a secret of the night that should remain as so," Julian said. "Also, modern day vampire hunters exist. Some kill to rid the world
of vampires, others sell vampire parts for a hefty price."

"Damn," Diana murmured, shaking her head. "I would have never dreamed in a nmillion years."

"Yes, deep down in your subconscious, you knew we existed, but you denied it, even after our second meeting." Julian smirked.

X-Rated Unedited Excerpt:

Outside, beneath the half moon, Julian stood, gazing up at Diana's window. The cool night air flowed through his long brown locks, his pale skin, almost translucent under the light of the moon. She finally responded to his mental calls. He had heard her call earlier, causing a wave of happiness to wash over
him, a rare emotion for him. His breathing labored at the thought of giving her the large bouquet of blood-red roses he had in his truck.

Unfortunately, hearing her every thought, and feeling her strong emotions towards him convinced him that he should avoid her. He wasn't supposed to have this type of feelings. He was only supposed to have bedded the wench and moved on to the next weeks ago, but with this one, he could not. Closing his eyes as
his cock began harden, he remembered every luscious curve of her ebony body. Oh, how her tits filled his hands, and the hot, musky flow of her liquid heat flowed freely from her slit. Her taste was exquisite, pure and sweet. He recalled that sexy ass look in her eyes when he fucked her hard and ate her pussy. She could ask for the world, and he would have given it to her.

Remembering her cries made his cock grow hard as steel, with an overwhelming need to fill her completely. Tonight, if given the chance, he would make slow passionate love to her, worshipping every inch of her from head to toe.

For the past week, he thought of finding someone to sate his powerfulsexual urges, but could not bring himself to do so because the void that once contained his heart yearned only for Diana. This was not the norm for Julian. Oddly, no other woman would suffice. `She' was the one who controlled his every
thought, made him hunger for her, and he would continue to ache with an everlasting need never to be fully satisfied, until he had her again.

Suddenly, he realized he couldn't allow her to know his true feelings. All he wanted at this moment was to make mad, passionate love to her. To please her, make her squirm with desire beneath him. Loneliness was eating away at his soul again, and once more he began to tire of his existence.

Damn her. She brought him to his fucking knees. He could have her now if he wanted, and all the frustration and heartache would end. Perhaps it was fear of her rejection, and the fact that he was a vampire didn't help her decision earlier. Briefly, the thought of controlling her crossed his mind, but he simply could not bring himself to do that. Cursing silently to himself, Julian turned to walk to his truck, grinning from ear to ear like some adolescent schoolboy as he received a sudden burst of confidence. Retrieving the large bouquet of roses, he strolled towards the building.

* * * * * *
Diana was sitting down on the side of her bed, her heart heavy when a strong feeling enveloped her, damn near stealing her breath from her lungs. She was unable to fight the strong urge that pulled her to the balcony in her living room. Startled at first at the silhouette she saw through the curtain, she pulled the material back, amazed as Julian flashed a nervous smile at her.

Quickly, she unlocked and opened the sliding glass door, pulling the vampire inside. "Where have you been?" Diana asked, throwing her arms around the large man.

"So, you have missed me?" he asked, handing her the large bouquet of roses.

Quickly turning on the lights in the living room, Diana gasped at the beautiful flowers, then fixated her gaze upon her lover. A surge of heat rushed throughout her body, and her nipples hardened. Julian looked damn good. She looked at him from head to toe and wanted nothing more than to jump his bones.

"Yes, you know damn well I've missed you, Julian," Diana crooned as Julian scooped her up into his arms.

"Then prove it," Julian murmured, before locking her lips with his. A powerful warm and fuzzy feeling flowed through their veins as they kissed for what seemed like an eternity. Strong, powerful emotions embraced them, encasing them together as one. Slowly, Julian carried Diana to her bedroom, gently
sitting her down on her bed. Eagerly, she attempted to unbutton his faded blue jeans, but he deterred her. Diana began protesting, only to have Julian hold his index finger gently upon her lips.

"I need to taste you," he insisted in a hushed voice.

"I want to suck your cock," Diana whispered. "I want you to come in my mouth and down my throat." At this particular moment in time, the overwhelming desire to please her man enveloped her.

"Oh, you will have your chance," Julian said, with a serious look. "For now, I need to taste you. I've wanted to taste you all bloody week long woman," Julian said, freeing Diana from her baggy pajama top and bottoms. He was happy to see she did not wear panties or a bra. Dropping to his knees, Julian caressed
her smooth silky thighs as he slowly kissed her stomach. He reveled in the fact that he made her body quiver upon touching her.

Satisfied by her moans and whimpers, he slowly licked his way down towards her navel. With each passing moment, perspiration clung to her wanton flesh as Diana slowly inched forward, her buttocks nearly off the edge of her bed. Her body trembled beneath his touch as she achingly waited for the moment he would
pay attention to the spot that yearned for his tongue the most. Teasing her with soft wet kisses around her mound as she eagerly spread her thighs even wider for him, Julian inhaled Diana's sweet musky fragrance. It was all he could do to contain himself as his erection boldly pressed against the soft faded blue denim
of his jeans.

Diana leaned back on her elbows and began to caress her breasts and pinched her nipples which had grown two-fold. Her moans grew louder as Julian came achingly near her sweet spot. His eyes sparkled as he slowly licked her smooth clean-shaven pussy lips, teasing her, bringing her to the edge as he licked and gently nibbled her inner thighs. Julian repeated this several times, grinning at Diana's tortured moans. Gently, he felt the velvety smoothness of her pussy lips, damn near causing him to relinquish all control and devouring her. Her pussy was just that damned good, Julian thought.

Spreading her legs as wide as he could, he massaged Diana's clitoris with his thumb, pulling back the hood. With his other hand, he teased her tender, swollen flesh, enjoying the contrast of pink against her dark brown skin. Slowly, he slid a finger inside her while continuing his sweet manipulation of her clit.

"Julian," Diana called out. Legs shaking, and perspiration beading her flesh, Diana began gyrating her hips as Julian matched the tempo with his finger, eventually sliding another in.

"That's right darling, call my name," Julian coaxed, his pre-come forming a large wet spot on his faded blue jeans. "Your pussy is so pink, so wet," he teased.

"Eat me Julian, please," Diana begged as she continued to pinch her nipples and squeezing her full breasts, shoving her crotch against Julian's probing fingers. "Ummm, in due time my sweet, in due time," the vampire teased. "My God,you're creaming all over my fingers and hand," he murmured.. "You really have
missed me."

At Diana's protests, Julian slowly pulled his fingers out of her pussy, once more teasing her so much, she believed she'd lose her fucking mind. "Julian, I can't take this anymore, it…it hurts," Diana gasped. "It fucking hurts, you're making me wetter and wetter, and I need your cock, tongue, something, anything," Diana moaned, feeling like a bitch in heat.

"Awww, tell Julian where it hurts. Is it here?" he asked as innocently as a vampire could. Slowly, gently, he kissed her swollen labia, quickly pulling his face away as she bucked against him. "What about here?" Julian asked, spreading her creamy folds apart, slipping a tongue inside, savoring her sweet juices.

"Yes, oh yes Julian. There. Oh Please, yes right there. Don't stop," she hissed as he rocked her body with endless pleasure from what his tongue was doing to her. His thick, long vampire tongue reached so far inside her, she thought she'd come on the spot as she baptized Julian's face with her juices. All the other times he ate her out was fabulous, the best she'd ever had, but for some reason this was absolutely different.

Slowly, he licked her slit from bottom to top, worshipping the swollen fleshy nub that so craved his attention. Like a juicy peach, he suckled, then placing it between his teeth, gently nibbled at it as he inserted two fingers inside her, causing Diana to wildly buck against his fingers. To her, he couldn't go deep enough. Arching her back, she pulled his hair as she continuously creamed on his fingers.

"Oh fuck. Why do I let you do this to me?" Diana cried out, all control lost to her.

Grunting against her flesh at her question, Julian continued pumping his fingers deep inside her until she screamed like a banshee. Her body left this world and journeyed to the next. An intense orgasm centering in her core rippled through her body, like a pebble in a pond. Julian continued his fierce pumping action of his fingers as he lifted his head from her drenched sex. The mixture of his skilled fingers, husky voice, and the intense glow of his eyes brought her to a second powerful orgasm.

"That's right, come for me, Diana," Julian coaxed in a deep growl as he reached for one of Diana's perky, dark nipples. Running his thumb across her clit caused her to tighten her thighs around his neck, lifting her ass off the edge of the bed until suddenly, her body returned to earth, feeling fully charged, her carnal desires almost sated.

Genre: Erotic Urban Fantasy

Blurb: Warning: This title contains hot, graphic demonic sex that goes beyond magic.

Tina doesn't know she's a witch. It will take Charun, her demon Familiar, to convince her to make love with him and let loose her witch powers.
For if she doesn't, then with the demon army about to bring Armageddon to the Mortal Realm on Halloween, she won't stand a chance in Hell.

Welcome Sapphire Phelan! What is your latest offering?
My latest book is called Being Familiar With a Witch.

What is Being Familiar With a Witch all about?
It is about a mortal woman, Tina, who doesn’t know she is part of an ancient prophesy. That if she lets a certain demon Familiar, Charun, who is coded to her specific DNA to make love to her before Halloween, she will gain powers that can help her defeat a demon army rising from Hell to make Armageddon on Earth. If she doesn’t let Charun make love to her, then she will die and the demons will win over Heaven, taking over the mortal realm.

That sounds awesome! How did you come up with the idea?
I read urban fantasies and noticed that most are strong women, which are fine. But what if a mere mortal has a chance to save her world and get a hunky demon in the bargain has that chance to become more? I tried to figure how she would get these powers as she is not born with them.

Tell me about your past releases and a little secret about yourself that no one else knows—I promise I won’t tell!
There’s Unwitting Sacrifice, an erotic Lovecraftian horror novella, puiblished by Under the Moon. I also have Crimson Promise, which is an erotic science fiction vampire paranormal short published by Phaze Books—set in the future and on another planet, with an undead vamp from earth (last of his kind) and a female alien one. I also have done erotic fantasy stories, a werewolf one, an erotic m/m dark fantasy, “The Dark Man” and even done a sweet super hero romance story that is an Amazon short and a sweet historical romance story that was in a romance ezine in 2006.

A secret about myself? I also write under my real name, Pamela K. Kinney for regular horror, scifi, fantasy, poetry and nonfiction ghost books.

Any new releases on the horizon this year?
Sometime this spring I will have an erotic paranormal romance short, Ain’t Nothin” Like Succubus  Lovin’ coming out from Phaze Books. This has a lot of humor in it—my editor called it quirky—something I think I can not do and then I do it.

What are you working on right now?
A sequel to Beast Magic, an erotic m/m paranormal romance with wereleopards. Then it’s on to writing the sequel to Being Familiar With a Witch, with Tina and Charun back.

Thank you for joining me, Sapphire. Is there anything else you'd like the readers to know?
Being Familiar With a Witch is a finalist in erotic paranormal romance category for EPIC Awards 2010. And check out where else on the Net you can find me:

A year later, Charun stood in front of the mirror on the wall and whispered a few words. The glass warped in and out, becoming something not unlike a television monitor. In it, he saw his witch working in the Cup of Tea and a Book bookstore, handing a bag of books over to a customer.
   "She's gorgeous," he whispered.
He ached to reach his hand through the glass and finger the long, blonde strands of her hair. He itched to stroke the skin of her face and see if it felt as soft as it looked. He took a few steps back, for if he didn't he would jam his head through the glass and kiss her on the lips. His cock expanded, growing longer and harder than ever before. Lust tore through him like a ravenous animal ready to devour its prey.
   The time had come.
   About time, too.
Taking spirit form and not looking back, Charun rose from the bowels of Hell to the mortal realm. He touched ground just down the street from Cup of Tea and a Book bookstore and became a handsome, naked man. His staff waved before him like a proud, hissing snake, spitting even as precum beaded at the slit. He shook his head. No, it was too soon for him to assume the man form.  He frowned, thinking.
   A cat!
He would become a cat. That would do—for now. Just not a horny tomcat, as the pain of his arousal washed over him. He dodged into a nearby alley and worked his organ, biting his lips when he came.
Withdrawing his hand from his flaccid penis and using the other to prop himself against the building, he spoke in demon, "Denoch er nomonaty."
A strange feeling slammed into him and he cried out as he dropped to his knees on the pavement. Thrusting out a hand against the ground so he wouldn't topple over, he began to metamorphose, growing smaller and smaller as he did. Black fur sprouted all over his body and head. His ears sharpened into points and shot up over his head, while his hands and feet became paws edged with sharp claws. Whiskers pinged out of his cheeks, and from his buttocks snaked a long tail. He hunched over and then fell over onto his ass. Within seconds, his metamorphose completed, he was a black cat. Resisting the peculiar urge to wash his face, Charun stretched and rose onto all four paws. He padded over to a puddle of rainwater to inspect the change.
He sat down and viewed his reflection. Not bad looking as far as cats went. Lifting a paw, he splashed his image. Then he trotted to the street and paused to sniff the air. He sneezed as the full force of odors hit him. A multitude of different things, from the smell of blasted sunshine to the grime of city life. The lack of moisture in the air revealed that it would not rain for days. The last time it had stormed was last week. He had arrived a day too late.
He needed heavy rain to make his first appearance to his witch, as a reason for her to feel sorry for him and take him in. From what he remembered, she would not leave any animal drowning in a torrential downpour. But, from all the viewing he did of her growing up he knew she wasn't an impulsive person, either. She loved animals, but felt that she couldn't afford one right now in her life. He might end up in an animal shelter. This kind of operation needed the right things in place.
Timing was important, too, even now. His witch's survival was the true equation here. If she died before he made her a witch, he knew the fate for Earth if the demons took over. There was the matter of his lust for her, too. Relieving it wouldn't be bad, either.
He cocked his head and twitched his ears. He was a demon, with strong magic. Closing his eyes, he let his magic surround him with a shimmering golden light.
   Lano'ste. Na la por lestano.
His fur stood on end, crackling. He widened his eyes as the magic burned within and outside with a violent heat close to atomic. It clenched his insides with an excruciating pain. He fell onto his side and barely noted when it shot away from him, heading toward the blue skies. It dusted the few white clouds drifting along and they became obsidian and pregnant with rain.
Still unsteady, he rolled onto his stomach and waited until the power quieted. Charun breathed in the rain's odor and gave a Cheshire cat grin. He rose to his paws and padded off as the sound of thunder vibrated in the air.
Fuck the weather forecasters and their predictions. With magic, he'd just turned their Doppler radar upside down.

Welcome Keta, it’s nice to have you here. What is your Sizzling Release?
Thank you for the opportunity to appear on your blog, Rie. The title of my new release is The Sin Eater’s Prince coming to you from Ravenous Romance on January 11, 2010.

What is The Sin Eater’s Prince all about?
It’s a male/male paranormal novel set in Wales in the mid-1800’s. For many years, Wales, England and Ireland held a strong belief that before a loved one could get to heaven their sins had to be absorbed. Thus, a sin eater resided on the outskirts of every village. Shunned by local residents, the sin eater was only called upon when someone was close to dying or had died. His duties then were to eat what they called the “dead cakes” while standing over the corpse and say a prayer absolving them of their mortal sins. In turn, he’d take the sins of the dying person as his own.

What was your inspiration?
I’d read several real life accounts about the ancient practice and wrote a short story based on sin eaters. The short appeared in Cecelia Tan’s anthology called Boys of the Bite. Not too long after the release of the anthology, Ravenous Romance asked me to develop the short story into a full-length novel.

Why paranormal--what’s the draw?
The concept of the sin eater while factual is based on mysticism or delves into life after death, and therefore falls under the paranormal category to begin with. Although the practice of sin-eating was widespread, there remains an edge of Welsh folk lore or legend when it comes to so many things in their culture, including the belief of sin eaters.

Now for the good stuff! It’s a brand new year, how did you celebrate New Years?
With family – eating lots of great food, enjoying some wine and watching the New Year come in at Times Square.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution?
I did and it has to do with reading. At Christmas 2008, I received lots of gift certificates for Borders and Barnes and Noble. I spent hours surfing and carefully selecting the books that came highly recommended or fell within the genres I write. When this Christmas rolled around, the books I’d selected in 2008 still sat in a huge TBR pile on my nightstand. And guess what? I received another round of gift certificates. It goes without saying that my New Year’s resolution is to cut into that pile of books by reading two chapters every night before I turn out the lights. So far so good. (Don’t tell my children in case they stop buying me those great gift certificates).

What are some of your favorite moments of 2009?
Summer, of course and working in my garden. I live in the Midwest so for at least 5 or 6 months of the year I don’t get outside much. By the time February comes, I’m already longing for spring. Another highlight is spending time with my children and my nieces and nephews who all seem to wander my way for lengthy visits. I’m also happy about the writing I’ve accomplished this year and look forward to new projects for 2010.

And for the grand finale—tell everyone what you have planned, publishing wise, for the New Year.
I knew you’d ask that. This list is long . . . but I’ll give it a go. I’m co-authoring two full-length novels (perhaps two series) with two wonderful authors. I’ve recently contracted for three more novellas in my Crossroads series with Phaze (male/male contemporary), and will have to write a sequel to The Sin Eater’s Prince since I ended on a cliffhanger. Ravenous has also asked me to write another Civil War erotic romance which I’ve outlined, and I promised to submit an outline for a medieval erotic romance to Ravenous.
I have the rights back now to two full-length novels, again erotic romance historicals that I’ll be re-editing and submitting somewhere, and then I have plans for some short stories; a paranormal and a historical.

So watch my web sites and blogs for more information about my writing for 2010.
Thanks again, Rie, and much success to you in the coming year!

Excerpt from The Sin Eater’s Prince:

Setup: The sin eater has just discovered the man who owns his heart is a vampire. Owen thumbs through the pages of his father’s Welsh history book to find out about “the insufferable”.

An innate sense of curiosity drew Owen to the hearth, and specifically to the nearby wooden crate. Shortly after his father passed, he’d relegated the man’s meager possessions and his collection of cherished books to the trunk and hadn’t looked at the contents since. If memory served him, he’d find not only several volumes on Welsh history, but another on legend and lore of Wales.
Removing the lid from the crate, he sorted through the books until he found what he searched for, Demons and Other Mystical Creatures of Wales. Thumbing through the pages quickly, he found the chapter entitled Lords of the Underworld: Vampyres.

He swallowed the lump in his throat and scanned the page, his eyes settling on a passage in the middle: The vampyre is the most dreaded and feared creature of the supernatural world. He’s not only obtained immortality, but has the ability to alter his appearance, fly through the night sky, and traverse the ground under the guise of the wolf or a wisp of smoke. After seducing his victims through hypnotic measures or mind control, the vampyre will drain them of their blood thereby bolstering his strength and power. A vampyre might possess beauty beyond one’s imagination or be hideously marked.

Owen’s heart launched into a triple beat and a fine bead of sweat broke out on his forehead. The mouth is thought to be the way the soul leaves the body, and also the way evil spirits are allowed to enter. If one has slain a vampyre in Wales, it is advised the mouth be stuffed with a consecrated object or stitched shut and sprinkled with holy water.

Owen turned the page with an acute sense of trepidation and read his third and final passage: Spiritual vampyres draw the life energy from their victims and at times, their very souls. This species of vampyre does not merely feed on blood but the victim’s essence in order to survive.

He slammed the book shut, tossed it back into the crate and replaced the lid. Then he rose and paced the cottage, the words from the tome tumbling through his head. He didn’t need to read the passages to know Maddock was a vampire; the man had admitted it. What he wouldn’t give to have known Andras before he arrived in Pembrokeshire. Had he always possessed such unearthly beauty or had he accrued it since Traherne turned him?

And what species of long tooth was Traherne? Had he not only fed on Andras’s blood, but sucked the very soul from the man? Andras, soulless? Nay, it could not be. He’d witnessed innumerable acts of compassion from the man while ministering to the sick, watched his eyes flood with empathy when they passed into the other world.

His intestines wound their way into a reef knot. Had Maddock played him false with his words of coveting him from afar and holding a place for him in his heart? Were those the words of a demon possessed of hypnotic capabilities or the words of a man who cared deeply?

The questions festered and churned until Owen knew only one thing: Maddock was a very dark and very beautiful vampire.

Sophie's Pleasure by Patricia Pellicane

Title: Sophie’s Pleasure
Release Date: January 11, 2010

Author: Patricia Pellicane
Publisher: total-e-bound
Genre: erotic contemporary romance
Blurb: With her psychic abilities, Sophie occasionally helps out the police on cases that appear to dead end. Joe Palermo is a Suffolk County detective and Sophie’s brother-in-law’s partner. Sophie and Joe dated briefly when she was a teenager. Joe, upon seeing her again, is very interested in taking up where he once left off. He can’t imagine why he let a woman who looks like her get away.

Sophie is adamant and tells him straight out, she wants no relationship with him. Still a woman doesn’t have to have a relationship to sleep with a man, does she? She was too young the first time around, but Sophie is a woman now. A woman who knows exactly what she wants.

Welcome Patricia, it’s nice to have you here. What is your Sizzling Release?
Thanks for having me, Rie. My newest release is Sophie’s Pleasure.

What is Sophie’s Pleasure all about?
Sophie’s Pleasure is about a young woman who has psychic powers. Her brother-in-law is a cop and he sometimes asks her for help. His partner, Joe and Sophie were once an item. Sophie was too young the first time around. Joe has since become a player, while Sophie wonders exactly what she missed.
Sophie decides to sleep with him, one time. Afterwards she refuses to see him again. Joe’s growing desperate. He wants her, possibly forever, while she can’t get over two obstacles. One, he’s a cop, two he’s a player. Can he change?
Joe swears he’s changed. But has he?

What was your inspiration?
I find inspiration in many things. A few words overheard, a situation with a friend or relative. For instance, my husband’s cousin lost her husband. In his locker at his job she found a half dozen or more bank books where he was hiding money, while he forced her to clip coupons and usually go without. That was the basis for a story I did for the Lucky in Love series for Zebra, some years back.
But mostly an idea or inspiration comes when I’m bored. Doing dishes, cleaning my fridge or stove. Can you think of anything more boring?

Why historicals? What’s the draw?
I enjoy writing historical pieces, and mostly write them, just about any period, but Sophie’s Pleasure happens to be a contemporary piece. I like to switch back and forth. The first twenty or so print books that I did for Pocket, Avon and Zebra were historicals. I don’t know, but there’s something about the old days that intrigues. A psychic once told me I’m an old soul and that’s why I like to write about old times. If that’s true then I’m older than she thought because I don’t stay in one time period. Of course, you’d have to be rich, or you didn’t live past thirty, in the old days, but if I can imagine living in say 1850 then I can imagine a long life to go with it.
You have to be careful with historical pieces. A fan can spot a mistake at ten paces and believe me they let you know. You have to make sure your info is accurate, plus it’s important not to give the reader a history lesson. A little here and there can often round out a good story.

Now for the good stuff! It’s a brand new year, how did you celebrate New Years?
Like I do every year. I party. Drink too much, eat fattening foods, laugh till tears threaten. I quit smoking so now I can laugh without choking half to death.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? If so, care to share?
No resolutions. How can you better perfection? (grin) Actually, I haven’t got the time or space to go into all the things that could be corrected. And I’ve got better things to do. So if I carry a few extra pounds and still hate to fly, I manage to live with it.

What are some of your favorite moments of 2009?
My favorite moments of '09 have to be the days when two more grandchildren were born. Both are adorable, of course. Plus, I published my first ebook. Babies always bring luck.
Two books were released in 09 and 10 more are to be released in 2010. It was a stellar year.

And for the grand finale—tell everyone what you have planned, publishing wise, for the New Year.
I signed a three books deal with Resplendence. I finish one right after Christmas and I’m in the middle of my second. Plus I’ve sent a synopsis to Total-e-bound and promised to have a book finished by mid-May. All four will be released in 2010. After that I’m taking a vacation.

Excerpt from Sophie's Pleasure

He waited until the elderly lady left then re-entered the shop. “All right, suppose I buy something.”
“Suppose you do. What are you talking about?”
“I’m trying to get you to like me.”
Sophie turned her back on him and reached for her bottle of water. She took a drink and faced him again with a smile. “That would be a serious mistake, don’t you think?”
“Why? I’m a nice guy.”
Sophie only smiled for a response.
“Sophie, come on.”
“All right,” she shrugged as if her next words were no big deal. “I’ve always wondered what I missed. So why don’t we go to bed?”
He blinked in surprise. “What do you mean? Just like that?”
“Why not? We’re grown up. All right, let me rephrase. I’m grown up. I can decide to go to bed with  someone, if I want to. I was only sixteen when we dated. And you were three years older, more experienced and ready to go off to college. You were a bit out of my league.”
Joe, obviously dumfounded, was momentarily unable to respond. Idly he wondered how this woman had somehow gotten the upper hand. Had she just insulted him? “You don’t think I’m grown up?”
Sophie shrugged. “I don’t know you well enough to say.” And that was the truth. She couldn’t judge the man on the little she did know.
“All right, you want to go to bed with me. Didn’t you just tell me it would be a mistake to like me?”
Sophie dismissed his remark with a light frown and a gentle shake of her head. “I don’t have to like you to have sex.” She took a deep breath. “You know, when I was a teenager, I heard about this woman. She was writing a book. In it she rated every man she ever slept with. All right, perhaps ‘slept with’ is the wrong terminology, but you get what I mean.”
Joe swallowed. “And what, you’re looking to rate me?”
She laughed at his bleak look, thoroughly enjoying this teasing conversation. “Well, I wouldn’t mind seeing for myself what all the fuss was about.”
“Jesus, nothing like putting a little pressure on guy,” he said, his voice slightly strangled.
“Well, if it’s only a little pressure, it shouldn’t bother you any.” She grinned at his sour look. “Being a kid, I thought she was disgusting, but reconsidering, she was quite brilliant, don’t you think? Imagine how hard those guys worked once they realised what she was about?”
Finally, he managed a dour, “When?”
If he appeared a bit glum about the prospect, Sophie thought he’d get over it soon enough. She smiled. “I have plans for tonight and tomorrow. Are you busy Friday night?”
“What time?” he asked without the slightest bit of pleasure.
Sophie grinned. For someone who appeared to be unhappy with the thought, he surely was an amicable sort. “I close the shop at six. Is eight o’clock all right?”
“Fine, should I bring—”
Sophie interrupted with a shake of her head. “Nothing. This isn’t a date. I’ll make dinner.” She laughed as she watched his brows rise, his gaze obviously confused.
“I thought this wasn’t a date. I thought you only wanted sex.”
“I have to eat, don’t I? As long as I’m cooking, I might as well make enough for two.” She laughed softly as she gave him a knowing look. “And you can be dessert.”

Friends In Deed by T.M. Hunter

Genre: Science Fiction, Space Opera, Action/Adventure

Blurb: Betrayed by former friends, space pirate Aston West must face his past and keep himself alive long enough to escape.

Welcome Todd, it’s nice to have you here. What is your Sizzling Release?
The second novel in my Aston West series, Friends in Deed. It’s a hot little action/adventure (or space opera) that’s sure to excite both new readers and fans of my first book, Heroes Die Young.

What is Friends in Deed all about?
In a nutshell, space pirate Aston West stumbles across a pair of old friends, twin brothers actually, in what seems an odd coincidence. Unfortunately for him, the brothers have other plans besides just catching up on old times. All three of them escaped from a prison planet long ago, and now Aston’s old friends want him to return there to carry out an extremely risky rescue mission. Even worse, they aren’t giving him any choice in the matter. Some friends, huh?

In the process of carrying out this rescue, Aston discovers he isn’t the only one the twins are forcing into servitude. He meets a female pirate who wants out, and his inner hero can’t help but try to help her out of her predicament. Trouble is, the twins aren’t about to just let her walk away. It becomes obvious Aston will need to become more like the brothers than he wants to.

What was your inspiration?
In Heroes Die Young, Aston (while sitting in a jail cell) reminisces about his escape from this prison planet and briefly mentions the brothers by name. Sitting around one day well after the first book was written, I wondered what these twins would be like, and what life would have been like for Aston back then. I began sketching out these characters and wondered to myself, “These two are pretty devious hombres. What if Aston met up with them again?” Thus began the plot work and the rest, as they say, is history.

A second piece of inspiration, much like my first book, came from a dream I’d had. So that I don’t spoil the ending of Friends in Deed for anyone, I’ll avoid giving too many details. Suffice to say, it was vivid enough that I had to adapt it for the ending of this story.

Why space opera? What’s the draw?
I’ve always been a fan of space travel, for as long as I can remember. The trouble with most science fiction that I’ve read is that it just drags on and on (which doesn’t do much for me, being short of attention span as it is). Space opera, in general, focuses on the characters and the action and places a little bit less emphasis on the science portion of the story. Usually, this ends up making such stories a faster-paced read, and has an easier time at keeping the reader’s focus.

You’d be surprised how many readers of my novel and short stories I’ve had tell me “I don’t normally read (or like) science fiction, but I loved this.” That’s the biggest draw to me, giving the reader what they want. What I’ve found is they want the action and character development. I’ve given them that in Friends in Deed.

Now for the good stuff! It’s a brand new year, how did you celebrate New Years?
I sat around the house with friends and family, playing various types of games, eating snacks, and drinking homemade eggnog (because store-bought eggnog is utter crap) until it was time to ring in the New Year. Then, the wife and I...well, that’s better left to the imagination. Heh.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution, if so, care to share?
I tend not to make resolutions (since all they’re good for is breaking) as much as I focus on setting my writing goals for the following year. These are the far-reaching goals which I use to narrow down what I’m going to be focusing on for my weekly breakdown that I post up on my blog (and a monthly one on a writing site I frequent).

So far, I’m planning on getting the following accomplished in 2010:
  • Finish the first draft of my third Aston West novel, tentatively titled Death Brings the Victory
  • Finish the final draft of my non-Aston novel, The Cure
  • Finish the final draft of two Aston novellas
  • Submit 12 short stories (1 a month)
  • Finish 12 new short stories (1 a month)

WOW! For someone who doesn't make resolutions, that's quite a list! How do you find time to write? No evil day job?
Nope, I definitely have a day job. I find that I have to be very diligent each day and use most of my free time to write. It also helps if you take writing with you, to make the most of time waiting for things like doctor's appointments, car repairs, etc. It becomes a little easier with time, and even more so if you break the larger goals up into smaller goals on a shorter time frame (breaking annual goals down to weekly goals).

I've posted thoughts on goal-making previously, and if anyone is interested in setting up their own goals, I highly recommend reading this post:
The Writers Vineyard

What are your favorite moments of 2009?
Definitely I’d have to say that picking up the Best-Selling Novel of 2008 Award from Champagne Books for Heroes Die Young (in April 2009) has to top the list, especially since it only came out in September 2008. After that (in no particular order) is my first print magazine sale for my tale “Profit and Loss” in Golden Visions Magazine; my first science fiction convention appearance (as an author) at ConDFW in Dallas, where I’ll also be a panelist this coming February, as well as a later appearance at Conestoga in Tulsa; and finally, my various book signings and readings around the state of Kansas. It’s always great to meet the readers, who make this whole writing business worthwhile.

And for the grand finale—tell everyone what you have planned, publishing wise, for the New Year.

  • Scheduled for publication in January with Golden Visions Magazine, my holiday-themed Aston West tale “A Thankful Heart”

  • Scheduled for publication in Ray Gun Revival (TBD), my Aston West short story “Lifeline”

  • In self-edits: The final draft of my non-Aston novel, The Cure

  • In self-edits: A pair of Aston-based novellas, Seeker and Some Assembly Required

  • In work: The first draft of my third Aston West novel, tentatively titled Death Brings the Victory

  • Too many short stories in work and in the submission process to list off!

  • Thank you for being my guest today, T.M. Is there anything else you'd like to mention while we're here?
Thanks for the interview! I had a lot of fun. And of course, if anyone wants to know more about me or my Aston West stories, head on over to for a peek. It’s been a blast!
